1776 & 2016: Is Anybody There?

American history and Broadway plays are once again a current topic with the smash hit Hamilton. We take a look though to an earlier play, 1776, and one of its prophetic songs “Is Anybody There” as we look at what awaits the Bernie Sanders drive for the Democratic Party presidential nomination. Political revolutions don’t happen in one election cycle or in one year. A look back at 1776 and its relevance today. Continue reading

A Time To Remember The Origins Of Bernie 2016

Jim Hightower once referred to Bernie Sanders as “Tim Carpenter with a Brooklyn accent and a Senate seat.” As Bernie 2016 rightfully gains in popularity and poll numbers, now is a good time to remember the origins of all of this. Without Tim Carpenter and Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) starting the idea of “Run Bernie Run” there wouldn’t be this wonderful political revolution happening. Things of this nature don’t “just happen.” There are people who had the wisdom to see the future and believe in the possibilities. Tim Carpenter was such a man. Continue reading

Looking Good At 50

There are many reasons to celebrate as Medicare turns 50 this week. Yet it’s a time to ask why we still don’t have a “Medicare For All” single payer health care delivery system in this country and how the “for profit” insurance companies continue to make it impossible for many to access health care. Bonus points if you know where Lyndon Johnson signed this historic bill into law. Check it out at the end of our blog. Continue reading

July 4, 2015: We Are Once Again Called To Reclaim Our Democracy

A great Jesuit once asked, “Where is it we think our dead have gone? Do we think they remain buried in the ground, or is their spirit alive with us today?” There can be little argument that Bernie Sanders’ stop in Madison, Wisconsin on July 1, 2015 reverberates with the message of “Fighting Bob” La Follette and his speech from July 4, 1897. Continue reading

‘The Boundaries Of The University Shall Be The Boundaries Of The State’: A Lesson Wisconsin and Scott Walker Forgot

Most people knew that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker would attack public education after his re-election in 2014, but his $300M cuts to one of the premier research institution is stunning by any measure. The privatization of public education is happening at record speed. How and why did we lose sight of the fact that PUBLIC education benefits all of us. Our heart bleeds for the University of Wisconsin and others facing the same fate. Continue reading

Bernie Sanders: His Prophetic Voice Warns of Dangers to Democracy

Senator Bernie Sanders joined Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison to talk about the most important issue facing us today: saving our democracy from the oligarchs who appear poised to buy our government. “There is no end to the amount of money they will spend to create the kind of government and society they want,” Sanders said of the likes of the Koch Brothers and Sheldon Adelson.
